Dr. Scott Higer has been practicing at Meridian Veterinary Hospital since 1993, with ownership since 1996. He grew up in Caldwell and did his undergraduate studies at both Northwest Nazarene University and the University of Idaho. He attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. His special interests include orthopedic/soft tissue surgery and ultrasonography. Dr. Higer along with his wife Karen and two kids Jessica and Keith live on acreage with their wide variety of pets and livestock. He volunteers as a soccer coach, helps with area 4-H programs, is an active member of the Lakeview Bible Church. His hobbies include outdoor sports and camping, along with taking care of his livestock and pets with his family.
Dr. Amy Albrecht is excited to be on the Meridian Veterinary Hospital team! She grew up in Manilla, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa for her undergraduate studies. She then attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University and received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She moved to Idaho with her husband, Steve and has been working in small animal medicine ever since. Her special interests include dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and physical therapy. Dr. Albrecht has two children, Mia and Alex. She enjoys reading, gardening, and camping with her family.
Dr. Denise Fisher was welcomed to the Meridian Veterinary Hospital Team in Spring 2013. She graduated from the University of California, Davis, with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego. Her special interests are Internal Medicine and Feline Medicine. She moved to Idaho in 1999 with her husband who had a job transfer opportunity and they live with their 5 cats, a Dapple Dachshund and a Guinea Pig. She volunteers in the veterinary community for South West Idaho Veterinary Medical Association, Snip and other rescue groups. She enjoys time off with family, including her twin sister who lives nearby, baking, and gardening.
After attending the University of Nebraska, Dr. Eklund graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1979 and has been providing care for small animals in the Boise area since that time. She was an associate veterinarian at Mountain View Animal Clinic for 8 years. In 1987 she and her husband Marty Telford founded Pets First Animal Clinic in Boise. They operated Pets First as a labor of love for nearly two decades. She is currently taking appointments at Meridian Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Eklund endeavors to be that vital link between the pet and owner in order to provide superior veterinary care for small animals.
Her areas of special interest are dermatology and internal medicine (medical diagnosis and treatment of disease).
Dr. Eklund is currently the president of the Idaho Board of Veterinary Medicine.
She lives in the Eagle, Idaho area with her husband Marty, Roody and Wrangler the cattle dogs, Vivian and Kliban the cats, Pike the horse and SunBoy the tortoise.
